DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: donni charm

One thing I love about having such a diverse group of Style Gurus is I am always learning about new designers, online shops and must-have items that are popular at their respective campus. My University of Arizona Style Guru, Alley, has continuously raved about the collection donni charm and the emotional story that brought this line to life. Not only is this story extremely inspiring (which I suggest you read about), the two visions behind this project are currently undergrads at the University of Arizona maintaining a full course load while trying to establish their name in the world of fashion. With everyone heading back to school this fall, adding a donni charm scarf to your wardrobe essentials is a must. I had the privilege of chatting with Dana and Alyssa, the women behind donni charm and learned a little bit about their collection and fashion at U of A.
1. What is the inspiration behind your scarf collection for fall?
Alyssa Wasko: Really low key and neutral colors.
3. Do you hand make the scarves and charms? Do you hand-pick the fabrics used?
AW: When we started making the scarves they were made by hand, but as demand increased we started getting them manufactured. Even still, all the fabrics are handpicked. Everything we use is very soft.
Dana Constantino: Our first collection (which we now refer to as Œvintage¹) was handmade and made famous by Jessica Biel. We still hand-pick the charms and fabrics, but
we are having a manufacturer aid us in production since the demand has increased.
4. Where do you see your collection a year from now?
AW: Expanding by location, brand recognition, and different product categories.
5. Best way to describe your personal style?
AW: Classic/trendy. I love to mix classic forever pieces with things that are trendy for the season.
DC: Everything Donni Charm charm and a great pair of jeans.
6. Favorite thing about the fashion scene at University of Arizona?
AW: Arizona is a school that enrolls students from all over the country which enables for a wide variety of fashion trends.
DC: My favorite thing about the UA fashion scene is the dynamic energy provided by the college atmosphere. Since donni charm started with the
Wildcats, it is fun to see the variety of outfits our scarves accessorize.
