I’ve always found that the hardest part about shopping for fall clothes in the summer is waiting until it’s cold enough to finally wear them. Villanova is starting to cool down and it’s time to pull out all of my favorite items that have been sitting in my closet the last two months. The piece of clothing I’m most excited about is without a doubt my black faux fur vest.
After seeing fur in every runway show from Gucci to Fendi to Alexander Wang, I was inspired to look for a new faux fur item to add to my collection. One show in particular caught my eye. Alturazza’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear featured lots of luxe fur pieces, in everything from pink fur coats to neutral toned fur collars. Fur never really goes out of style, but it is making a comeback this year in a big way.
To incorporate this runway trend, I spent weeks searching for the perfect black faux fur vest. I think that I hit the jackpot when I found this gorgeous Topshop one in Nordstrom. Black fur is so versatile and can be paired with so many pieces, but my personal preference is to create an all black ensemble with jeans and strappy sandals. Jeans with a subtle rip across the knee are the latest trend in denim wear for this season, and truly a must-have for girls who want a pant that is appropriate for class but still has an edge. I wear these pants everywhere, from work to a night out on the town. I tied together the look with these Sam Edelman heels, which are currently my absolute go-to shoe. Sam Edelman’s shoe is a much more affordable version of the celebrity favorite Stuart Weitzman “nudist” sandal. Like the jeans, this is the perfect shoe for both day and night, and are definitely a fall 2015 staple.
Black is one color that truly never goes out of style. Once fall rolls around, I can usually be caught on campus in black from head to toe until well after Spring Break. Black is so versatile, and I love that this outfit can easily be adjusted to transition into colder weather. When the temperature drops, keep the staple faux fur vest, but try replacing sandals with suede boots or booties, or adding an extra layer with a black leather jacket under the vest.
An all black ensemble shouldn’t be boring, and a faux fur vest or jacket is an easy way to make your outfit pop. Create a trendy look by putting together monotone pieces with unique features and textures. Don’t be afraid to mix together faux fur, leather, suede and even fringe for instantly chic style!
