Over the past few years, it seems like delicate, girly trends have dominated the racks at clothing stores. Well, maybe not anymore.
The Alexander Wang fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection has certainly contributed to the recent shift towards edgier and darker styles. In regard to his collection, the iconic designer remarked, “Our customer wants black, so why not do an all-black collection?” Wang kept his looks intriguing and from falling flat on the runway, however, by loading them with hardware. The styling of the models for this collection was pure grunge. They personified attitude, sporting slicked and spiky hairdos and rocking Frankenstein boots.
Taking inspiration from Wang’s edgy collection, I kept my outfit mostly black, adding minimal hints of color to break up the monochrome. I wanted to play with different textures and materials for this look because I noticed that this was a recurring element in Wang’s Fall collection as well. To do this, I wore my suede biker jacket that is lined with cozy fur and my purple and black loafers that include both fine fur and leather. I jazzed up my outfit with silver hardware, including a chunky necklace, the studs on my flats and the metal details of my jacket.
To match the grunge vibe of the models in Wang’s show, I opted for straight, slicked-down hair and slightly smoky eyes. I painted my nails purple to tie in with my flats, but was sure to top them off with silver glitter to match the hardware in my look.
