Korean makeup and skincare are sweeping across the world, and it’s the best thing ever! In Korean skincare, there are 10 essential steps that help radiate your skin. From an oil-based makeup remover to essences, here is what each step does to your skin.
—Makeup remover. Removing makeup is probably my least favorite thing to do at the end of the night. But it is such an important step because you don’t want black streaks of mascara and eyeliner all over your face, pillowcase, or sheets the next day. A makeup remover with an oil-based cleanser is the best option. Massage it all over your face, then rinse.
—Water-based cleanser. This is called double cleansing! Washing with a water-based cleanser gets rid of all the remaining residue on your face.
—Exfoliate. This step is recommended for your skin at least twice a week. Exfoliating helps you clean and polish your skin while scrubbing away the dead skin cells that clog up your pores. Do this step at least twice a week.
—Toner. After washing and exfoliating, your skin is going to feel a little dry. Toning moistens your skins and balances out your pH levels. Distribute your toner on a cotton pad and gently wipe your face, or pour it on your hand and tap onto your skin.
—Essence. An essence is a toner and a serum all in one that both hydrates and repairs your skin all in one package! After toner, just apply your essence, and pat it into your skin.
—Treatments. This includes any skin care boosters, serums, and ampoules. They can target problems such as large pores, pigmentation, acne, etc. All you need to do is gently tap into your skin.
—Sheet Masks. Sheet masks are probably the easiest step, because who doesn’t love sheet masks? It is recommended to put on a sheet mask at least once or twice a week, and let it sit on your face for 15-20 minutes. Masks help bring nourishment back into the skin.
—Eye Cream. The area around our eyes is quite delicate, which is why an eye cream is the extra frosting on the cake. Use your ring finger and gently tap. Avoid the water line, and never rub!
—Moisturizer. Using moisturizer is important because it locks and seals all of your hard work. Just pat it in every morning and night, and don’t forget your neck area.
—Sun protection. Sunscreen is a must if you are planning to go outside. Applying sunscreen will help defend your skin from UV rays. Also, it’s the easiest way to protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancer. Simply pat it into your skin, and reapply if necessary.
You know your skin the best, so focus on which steps are right for your skin type. Remember, your skincare routine should not be a chore, but a fun thing to look forward to at the end of the day.
