All week long, we here at CollegeFashionista are rewinding and reflecting on this past year as we look forward to 2016!
While it is true, every Fashionista/o’s style is unique, there are definitely overarching trends that come up on our radar here at CollegeFashionista. While there are too many trends to list, we decided to narrow it down to our top five favorites we saw popping up on college campuses around the world this past year.
Check out to see if your favorites made the list. We look forward to capturing all the new and exciting trends hitting the sidewalks of campuses in 2016!
Number one—sneakers. 2015 was the year of the sneaker. It didn’t matter if you were a gym rat or couldn’t tell the difference between a baseball and football, sneakers were the first choice when it came to footwear for Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike.
Number two—distressed white denim. Remember when you thought you couldn’t wear white after Labor Day. That was so 2014. Because this past year threw the rule book out the window in a big way. Not only were college students obsessed with rocking white well into winter, but the most distressed, the better.
Number three—fringe. Some trends people go back and forth on. On trend that Fashionistas were definitely not on the fringe on was, well, fringe. From bags to skirts, the shredded strands were suddenly everywhere. Cue the twirls!
Number four—lace-up flats. Much like the sneaker, the lace-up ballet flat was a welcome surprise for our tortured soles. Not only were lace-up flats totally adorable (and Instagram worthy), but they were practical. Whether rocking them to class or a date night, the look was polished without the aches of rocking stilettos for hours on end.
Number five—the button-down mini. In the words of Miley Cyrus, this trend came in like a wrecking ball. One second it was all skinny jeans and leggings. The next thing you know every Fashionista is rocking skirts. And not just any skirt—button-down mini skirts. Denim, suede and even leather. Something about the snaps really clicked in the fashion hearts of Fashionistas everywhere.
