I’ve had problems with my skin for as long as I can remember, and serums have quickly become the solution. Starting in middle school, I struggled to create a skincare routine that actually worked. I was so confused trying to figure out what each product was for. Some days, I would even forget to put lotion on my face, and then I would be left wondering why my skin was so dry. I had a lot to learn.
I finally found a simple routine using a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer that works well for me. This was after months of researching to find the right products. I switch up my products when they are no longer effective or when my skin breaks out. I also use the occasional face mask, exfoliator, or face oil for a little extra care. Now, I’ve realized I’ve been leaving out the one product that has become my daily staple: face serums.
I discovered the importance of face serums on TikTok, where I learned that layering serums can make your makeup look dewier. From there, I rushed to Amazon to buy! Serums are used right after cleanser or toner and before applying moisturizer. You can also choose different serums that will cater to your skin type or issues, such as dark spots, discoloration, dryness, or acne.
So, here are five serums that I have tried or want to try that are effective and top-rated. Remember, if you have problems with your skin, it is always great to receive professional advice from your doctor or dermatologist. Everyone’s skin is different, and it is important to find what works best for you.
Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA Salicylic Acid Serum
This one has to be my all-time favorite! In my opinion, it is a little expensive but so worth it. I was first introduced to this product from Campus Trendsetters’ Spring Refresh Kit. The second I tried it, I saw and felt a difference in my skin. It truly made my skin glow and feel hydrated. It also smells amazing, like fresh strawberries. It contains AHA and BHA acid serum that gently smooths, addresses the appearance of breakouts, and visibly refines pores for clear, hydrated skin. $40
COSRX Snail Mucin 96% Power Repairing Essence
This is one of the serums I was recommended from social media for dewy skin, and they were right! I usually apply this before makeup in multiple layers for a dewy look. I also wear it by itself to keep my skin glowing. It is made with 96.3% Snail Secretion Filtrate that contains “Mucin”. It is an effective ingredient for enhanced moisture. It soothes damaged, dehydrated skin, reduces dullness, and delivers moisture deep into your skin. $15
Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum
If you struggle with discoloration, this serum is for you! I was introduced to this product earlier this year when Good Molecules offered to send me some of their products to try out. Their goal is to create affordable skin care products that actually work. I can honestly say their products hold true to this.
I have always had problems with discoloration, especially acne scars. After using this serum for a couple of months, I noticed my acne scars fading and my skin tone evening out. This product is formulated with tranexamic acid to visibly improve the appearance of dark spots, acne scars, melasma, and sun damage. Consistency is key for seeing results with this product. $12
E.L.F Vitamin C Face Serum
This serum is a must have on any beauty wish list! It is trending on e.l.f.’s website with a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars. It contains Vitamin C to help brighten and even out your skin tone. It also contains Vitamin E to help nourish and hydrate, along with Pomegranate extract that provides protective antioxidants. $16
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum
Lastly, this is another serum from my wish list that I can’t wait to try! It is another top rated product with 4.3 out of 5 stars. It is a lightweight water-based serum that contains Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5. It replenishes lost moisture, maintains healthy-looking skin, and provides enhanced barrier support. $7
I hope this list helps you find the facial serum that will transform your skincare routine!
