When it comes to fashion, it’s safe to say that nobody does couture like a celebrity stylist. With outfits ranging from minimalist to eclectic, mundane to exciting, there is nothing I love more than a scroll through my favorite celebs’ editorial, red carpet, or streetwear looks. You may wonder, who are the masterminds behind these looks? Their stylists — the powerhouses of couture and the aces of the Academy — are behind each and every visual masterpiece your favorite celebrity has been spotted in. That’s why I’m breaking down the top five stylists (in no particular order) that you should be following on social media for all of your outfit and accessory wants and needs. *Spoiler alert* These five stylists dominate not only the streets, but the red carpet too!
Law Roach
Nobody does fashion like Hollywood’s finest, Law Roach, the stylist to celebs such as Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Tom Holland, and more. And yes, I’m talking about the mastermind behind those deep-emerald green, awards season dresses from Zendaya and Anya. This year, The Hollywood Reporter coined Roach number one in their annual list of Hollywood’s most powerful stylists, making history by being the first black stylist to be named the top slot. Roach has not only taken Hollywood’s fashion by storm, he currently holds an acting role as a judge on Legendary. Learn more about Roach by following his Instagram @luxurylaw. And yes, his social media is just as iconic as his red-carpet creations.
Mimi Cuttrell
The young and fashionable Mimi Cuttrell styles celebrities such as Ariana Grande (Yes, even that custom Vera Wang wedding gown), Iris Law, Lily Rose Depp, the Hadid sisters, and more. Widely known for her street style influence, if you are familiar with the celebrities above, you already know Mimi Cuttrell is top of the line. Mimi was born and raised in California, but currently resides in New York City so she can be closer to her clients. In a 2018 interview with Vogue, Mimi stated that she draws inspiration from architecture and color combinations — très chic! You can follow Mimi on Instagram at @mimicuttrell.
Harry Lambert
Stylist to none other than Harry Styles, Harry Lambert’s visions are captivating, creative, and at times, a little out-of-the-box. Lambert breaks tradition while exploring the realms of shape and movement. Lambert has also styled Netflix’s The Crown’s iconic leads, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor (a.k.a. Princess Di and the infamous Prince Charles) for certain award show moments this past year. Remember the iconic neck lines the pair pulled off at the 2021 Golden Globes? Yep, so do I, and that was thanks to the styling of Mr. Harry Lambert. Follow Lambert’s work on Instagram @harry_lambert to see more.
Elizabeth Stewart
A queen of the red carpet, Elizabeth Stewart is known for styling the big leagues: Amanda Seyfried, Viola Davis, Laura Dern, Elizabeth Olsen, Cate Blanchett, Gal Gadot, Julia Roberts, and I mean seriously, need I say more? Okay fine, her clientele also includes Sandra Bullock, Rebel Wilson, Selma Blair, Lili Reinhart, and Zoey Deutch. Stewart climbed the ranks of the fashion industry: spending 12 years in the style department of the New York Times Magazine and 10 years at Women’s Wear Daily, slowly but surely becoming the editorial and red-carpet icon she is today. Micaela Erlanger
Another ace of the red carpet, Micaela’s portfolio consists of A-List and Academy Award worthy icons such as Lupita Nyong’o, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto, and more. If I do say so myself, her creations deserve Oscars of their own. In 2013, Erlanger opened her own studio and jump started her career as an individual stylist. Just two years later, she found herself amongst the “25 Most Powerful Stylists in Hollywood” as coined by The Hollywood Reporter. Erlanger draws inspiration from a mix of vintage fashion and modern art. Just 36 years old, I cannot wait to see Erlanger continue to flourish in the fashion industry. Follow her social media @micaela to keep up with her lifestyle and portfolio.
While the names mentioned above teeter more towards the well-established, well-known side of styling due to their celebrity status, there is a whole industry of stylists out there, each with their own individualistic taste. I’d like to shout out a few more of my personal favorite stylists on the verge: Carlos Nazario, Andrew Mukamal, Emma Morrison, Leah Abbott, and leaning more towards the influencing side of fashion, with the most articulate yet casual social media style, Nina Sandbech and Sam Feher. Let us know who your favorite stylists to follow are below!
