Hello, world! My name is Kate, and I am currently a sophomore at Fordham University. I am majoring in Communications and Media Studies and double minoring in both Business Administration and Marketing. I cannot wait to see where this career path takes me in none other than, New York City. Here’s to hoping it has something to do with cheeseburgers because I’m starving as I write this.
Before I tell you even more about myself, I want to share with you what this opportunity (which I am so entirely pumped about) means to me. With my freshman year under my belt, I have found that college is a time of self-discovery and finding ways to express these two fundamental things: what we learn about the world and what we learn about ourselves. I am delighted to have uncovered and been granted the ability to share with you what this year has taught me, though I’m fairly certain I may have known it all along, but needed this opportunity to articulate the sum of my experiences. Here we go…get ready, people. My big, educated reveal: Fashion is the bridge between the world and my (your) still-forming beliefs about it. The wonderful thing about fashion sense is that through what I choose to wear, what I choose to show the outside world, I can express what I sincerely feel and believe. And if I change my mind, then I can change my outfit. It’s that simple. As a newly initiated Style Guru, my first piece of sage advice is to wear what you want, wear what makes you comfortable, wear what makes you most feel like you.
Now, let’s talk about me some more. My college friends (shout out to you) have described my outfit color palette as strictly “autumnal” but I think I can delve a little deeper into my closet for you. I would describe my personal style as edgy bohemian. I love flowing earth tones and intricate patterns and designs, but I also love my heeled, black leather booties and a good flannel. Though I have to admit, I have stolen a lot of my signature pieces from my mother’s closet. I’ll often walk downstairs in an outfit and nine times out of 10 she’ll say, “Hey, that’s my ________!” Every bandana I own, my denim jacket and my turquoise ring that never leaves my finger…all kudos to her (thanks, Mom)! I’m inspired by older pieces and I like finding interesting ways to make them more current. Accessorizing is a great way to do this. I can never have too many pairs of sunglasses or bold necklaces!
I so look forward to learning more about college students and what they believe just by the clothes they wear. Thank you for letting me introduce myself and I hope I can shed some light on what inspires me daily and by doing that, I hope to inspire you as well.
Peace be with you!
