Hello friends and fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Lindsey Yanow and I am a grad student studying Publishing and Writing at my dream school: Emerson College. After receiving my BFA in Creative Writing at Roger Williams University, I am ready to move back to the city and be inspired by all the creative and unique students at Emerson!
Writing is one of my lifelong passions. For as long as I can remember, books have always been my favorite fashion accessory. My taste in books is actually pretty similar to my fashion style—it changes depending on my mood, I’m always willing to try something new, they are great conversation starters and the classics never truly go out of style.
Before college, I wore a uniform every day for 11 years at Catholic school, meaning I didn’t have much choice in my wardrobe, so I wasn’t really fashion savvy (unless polo shirts and kilts were in style?). By the time I was 18, I was so fashion inept that I didn’t know what to do with my newfound freedom. I finally had full reign over what I could wear to class and “dress down” days were no longer just perks! And that’s when I realized if you have nothing stylish to wear, borrow your roommate’s clothes. I started borrowing clothes from all my friends until I started to figure out my own style.
My everyday look is pretty simple and classic: jeans, converse, and big, comfy sweaters. I mainly stick to more neutral colors, but I try to dress up my outfits with accessories or one bright focal color. I’m also a sucker for anything soft and I love floral patterns! Most of my outfits these days seem to be more workplace focused, so I’ve added a few blazers to my collection and some fun dresses. It’s still summer though, so I’m keeping the warm weather alive with sandals and wedges.
Now that I’m in the “real world,” working in the day and going to school at night, it’s really important that my outfits not only look great, but feel great from morning until night. Through my posts, I hope to showcase outfits that don’t compromise comfort for style; I call it “comfortable chic.”
I’m very excited to be starting my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to see what’s in store this fall!
