Although denim is a constant classic, I’ve noticed a resurgence. The styles and options have become limitless. The go-to skinny jean can be swapped for flared jeans and the denim parka replaced with a denim duster coat. Fashionistas/os have fallen back in love with denim so hard that even a sensational pair of jeans alone cannot satisfy their fashion senses. We cannot resist the urge to double down on denim for the coolest monochromatic look.
Even with the increased popularity of the double denim trend, some still may have reservations about making this kind of bold statement. Maybe it has to do with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s unforgettable (and not in the best way) denim overload at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards where the couple draped themselves in denim from head to toe. This is a fashion moment I’m sure many of us have regrettably been unable to live down.
Despite this, there is certainly a way to double down successfully. Today, our fellow Fashionista shows us how it’s done with her two-tone look. Unlike when your black clothing aren’t the same shade, wearing two or more shades of denim adds dimension and structure. The chambray mini skirt combo is a very effortless cool transition into the fall season. In keeping with the blue mood, this Fashionista introduces another texture to her look with these navy blue leather tassel Chelsea boots. Her gold hair accents and jewelry add the right amount of detail to complete the look, but still keep the focus on the denim.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You can never go wrong with double denim or denim in general. No one is you and that is your power! Rock your personality, always.”
