As the summer comes to an end (please take this moment to wipe away any tears that were shed due to this realization), I can finally get back on campus to eye all the beautiful back to school clothes and accessories seen on my fellow Fashionistas/os. The first week of classes always present us college Fashionistas with a plethora of opportunities to find the perfect subjects for style tips and advice. Among the throng of students walking through the green, along the brick lined pathways, are incredible pieces that need to be a part of my wardrobe. It almost makes coming back to school bearable….almost.
Lucky for us, the summer ‘15 block heel sandal trend is moving seamlessly into fall and being executed flawlessly. Block heels are big right now because they are so versatile and can be both casual and dressy. These sandals are being seen in the collections of designers such as Tory Burch and Chloé as well as more affordable online retailers like ASOS. And let’s not forget to discuss the main feature of these sandals: comfort. The block heel on this sandal gives more support and helps eliminate any embarrassing trips that may happen while wearing a skinnier heel. “I mean, I know we all secretly hope the other one will trip and fall on her face”, to quote Gracie Hart from Miss Congeniality. Sorry to all ladies jealous of those in block heel sandals, but with these heels that proposition won’t happen.
The block heel sandal trend is massive right now and can be see on everyone from our favorite celebrity Fashionistas to students roaming around our very own college campuses. I stumbled upon my style inspiration of the week while texting my friends about our evening plans; I mean it is syllabus week, let’s live a little. Looking down at my phone I spotted the most incredible block heel sandals, so naturally I had to stop this Fashionista to compliment her on her sandals and her impeccable taste in back to school attire.
My subject chose to dress down her block heel sandal with cuffed, dark wash skinny jeans and a flowered kimono. She still maintains the casual feel to her outfit, yet her look is elevated because of the block heel opposed to a flat sandal. This Fashionista found her block heel sandals at Madewell. When weather turns a little chillier come early October, pairing these block heel sandals with a chunky knit sweater will look chic and trendy. In other words, a block heel sandal can make any outfit a little more fashionable and give you that extra boost of confidence that only a heel can give to a girl.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I would describe my style as urban with bohemian undertones. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different silhouettes and trends while adding your own personal touches through accessories and colors.”
