In the realm where comfort meets sartorial sophistication lies the skort: the definitive item for channeling a casual-chic look. For those still in the midst of summer’s unforgiving heatwave, the skort exudes all the effortless flair of dressing up while avoiding a sweltering state of being. If you’re consistently on the go while on campus—especially if you bike to get around—a skort is flexible enough to shuffle about in. Who says you have to sacrifice your style in order to get around on campus?
As skorts are notorious for their short hem lines, pairing one with a long blouse (as shown here) or blazer will offset the length. Here, I decided to make the contrast even sharper by pairing my royal blue skort with a graphic floral blouse. Much like Misha Nonoo’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I admired the pairing of abstract motifs with crisp, deep hues. Though Nonoo pairs her streamlined designs with laced-up flats, I chose to ramp up my look with my favorite pair of white flatforms. I’d like to think if a shoe heaven exists, it would be filled with flatforms—and occasional stilettos—galore.
When fall comes into full force, pair your skort with tights and a long duster coat or leather jacket to rotate it perfectly into your fall wardrobe. Just imagining layering my skort with button-ups makes me thrilled for crafting back to school outfits. So long and farewell to jeans; your presence bothered me anyways.
