STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: InVEST in Fall Trends

Fall is in the air, and girls on Twitter everywhere are rejoicing over apple picking, pumpkin spice lattes and snuggling under blankets. More importantly, this change of season means it’s time to stash away those shorts, tanks and gladiator sandals and replace them with jeans, sweaters and boots. Fall jackets are always one of my favorite parts about the cooler weather, but this year I’ve been obsessing over a slightly different trend—vests.

I’m really excited about the fall vest trend mainly because of its versatility. If you’re participating in some traditional fall activities like going to a football game or an afternoon apple picking, a vest can be layered over a chunky sweater and paired with jeans and tall boots. However, vests can also be dressed up. For example, throw one over a dress and add a pair of ankle booties and you’re all set for a girl’s night out. The best part about wearing a vest out is that you don’t have to awkwardly carry around a jacket all night, too. It’s the perfect trend for September weather that can be chilly at times, but not cold enough for army jackets and trench coats.

This Fashionista’s vest is a perfect addition to her outfit as she spends her afternoon hanging out around campus. Its navy blue color complements the stripes in her sweater perfectly, which also serves as a way to dress up her leggings. Another reason I love the navy color of her vest is because it looks great paired with the rich brown color of the leather boots. Her vest is a perfect example of how vests are appropriate for both outdoors and indoors, and really add an extra element of style to any ensemble.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Vests are always my go-to trend on days when I have a busy schedule and have to adapt my outfit throughout the day. I definitely recommend pairing them with more casual pieces like sweatshirts and sweaters to dress them up, but I also love wearing them with dresses and skirts. Be sure to take advantage of all the different ways to pair them because a lot of people don’t realize how adaptable they really are.”
