STYLE GURU STYLE: Baby It's About to Be Cold Outside

Fall in Indiana is basically the last hoo-rah for outfits that don’t include a thick heavy coat, with seven layers of long sleeves and sweatshirts underneath them, snow pants and clunky snow boots. Our winters are brutally cold and snowy, so we savor fall for as long as possible.

Much like BCBGMAXAZRIA’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, it is important to have layers upon layers once the cold starts to set in. Scarves, turtlenecks, boots or whatever it takes to keep warm and also trendy, are important wardrobe staples.

One thing that really stuck out to me in this collection was the craftiness of the outfits. To achieve this look, I experimented with mixing patterns. I love the contrast of the horizontal stripes in the tee and the plaid of the blanket scarf.

I love layering because there are so many ways to do so without ever wearing the same combination twice. There is literally a never-ending list of possibilities. Going off of what was put on the runway, I decided to add up a few layers featuring a navy and cream striped tee, a military style jacket and to top it off and a blanket scarf. Blanket scarves are so nice in late fall/early winter because their thickness and size is much more than that of a regular rectangular or wrap scarves, which keeps the body tremendously warmer in those chilly temps. Also, as seen on the runway, this collection featured mostly over the knee boots or booties, depending on the outfit. I translated their look into my look by finishing this outfit off with a pair of Hunter Boots. These babies are awesome for cold and rainy fall days or snowy winter days when I’m walking to class. Never failing to keep my feet warm and dry.

Get My Look: 1. A striped T-shirt. 2. A military style jacket. 3. Plaid blanket scarf. 4. Hunter Boots.
