If there’s one thing I thoroughly enjoyed about the revival of ‘90s style and apparel, it’s this: the re-emergence of fuss-free fashion. It’s the comeback of minimalism and development of simpler, visually appealing aesthetics. As someone who has jumped aboard the trend train to and from over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate effortless clothing and simpler, staple items. Prints and patterns will always hold a place in my heart, but like this Fashionista reminds us, less can certainly be more.
As we move into October, we’re still in the midst of a (seemingly) everlasting summer in Davis, California. For most of us Davisites, we’re still managing to find ways to keep cool and recycle summer styles. Yet, this Fashionista shows us that the simplest item—a halter tank top—may in fact be the smartest item for tackling the summer-fall transition. She’ll be able to get around on campus without breaking a sweat and still pull off a chic look.
For an added laid back feel, this Fashionista wore a camel-colored floppy hat that pays homage to the fall fashions we’re (currently) deprived of. In addition, she wore a pair of ripped, high-waisted skinny jeans and a classic pair of booties with a stacked heel.
When out in a crowd, I’m typically drawn to looking at the outfits that are most flamboyant or that feature an interesting piece of jewelry. Yet, it was the complete lack of distraction that made me drawn to this outfit in the first place. After all, simple is the new sexy.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “In this heat, I’m just keeping it simple but stylish through accessories. Having a go-to hat is something easy to do.”
