As elevated, sophisticated style climbs its way higher on the list of this season’s trends, I find myself still gravitating towards more punk or grunge pieces. While it may be a fashion faux pas to hang on to last year’s trends, I just can’t make myself let go! It’s good to know that I’m not alone in this because the Fashionisto I found for this article seems to agree. However, he successfully incorporated a few of this season’s coolest trends into his outfit, which is something I’ve been experimenting with in my own style as well.
One unmistakably cool element of this outfit is the distressed denim. This kind of extreme distressing is usually seen on jeans, so I was definitely interested to see it gracing this oversized jacket. Underneath, this Fashionisto was wearing what appeared to be your everyday graphic T-shirt. As I got closer, I realized that the graphic was actually a big, textured and fuzzy smiley face. I loved how unexpected this detail was, as I always appreciate the surprise element in fashion. In my opinion, even little details like this have the potential to turn any average outfit into something brilliantly eye-catching.
Although this Fashionisto was rocking a multitude of awesome outfit details, I wanted to focus specifically on the buttons he had pinned to his jacket. The button trend has become more and more visible in the fashion world as this season has progressed, and I think it’s great that it’s getting some mainstream recognition.
Everyone can start to look the same after a while in a classic jeans-and-jacket combination, but the simple act of adding various buttons and/or pins to an outfit makes it completely personal. I especially love that each person’s unique assortment of buttons tells its own little story.
