Black and white are a fashion power couple that have withstood the test of time. When combined and layered appropriately, they’re a force to be reckoned with. A white button-down shirt and a black suit create a clean-cut and sleek professional look. A sheer white top and a black A-line midi skirt create a classic Fashionista look. That’s not forgetting a bold black and white print or striped dress that can be dressed up with pumps and a simple jeweled necklace, or dressed down with casual wedges and chunky jewelry.
The versatility of this beautiful pairing inspired Junya Wantabe’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The mainly black and white collection was simple enough to shift the focus on the array of dimensions and forms utilized.
Inspired by the Japanese designer’s simple yet bold fashion choices, I chose to pair a black and white striped maxi dress with two slits with a black half sleeved jacket. Although the dress and the jacket could have been worn without accessories because they were bold and chic enough on their own, I decided to add a few more elements to complete my look. I added some texture and color to the look to make it my own and express my sense of style. I accessorized my black and white ensemble with a white watch and thin gold bangles, as well as green reflective glasses, a brown leather clutch and nude open-toed buckled heels.
