STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely Layers

Wintertime is almost here, which means it’s only going to get colder and colder. It’s time to start bundling up in order to brave the cold, windy, snowy outdoors. There’s nothing worse than bundling up for thirty degree weather, only to arrive at your destination to find that they are blasting the heat, making your four layers of clothing seem like a very bad idea. Sure, if you’re going skiing or spending the day outside in December, it makes sense to wear difficult-to-remove layers because, chances are, you won’t want to remove them. However, if you’re planning on spending the day inside, it is not ideal to have all of these layers that are hard to take off.

Luckily, there is an easy solution for this. Instead of wearing your pullover sweater, wear a cardigan. That way, if you get to your destination and it’s too hot for all of those layers, you can easily remove some of your layers without having to go somewhere else to change. More importantly, make sure your first layer is an outfit in itself. This Fashionista is wearing a chambray button-down shirt under a cardigan. If she gets too hot in a room that has blasting heat, she can easily remove the cardigan, stick to the button-down and still look fashion-forward.

There are so many ways to achieve the trend of layering. Button-down shirts are a great and practical component in layering. You can easily even sneak another layer under the button-down shirt by putting on a thin, neutral colored, long sleeve shirt. Button-down shirts, whether they be chambray, gingham or flannel, can easily make any outfit look more put-together and polished. Conveniently, they also tend to be fairly comfortable.

Another great way to bundle up in style is through accessories. Scarves are both practical and stylish. There are so many different patterns (plaid, fur, striped) and types (infinity, blanket, oblong), so it’s easy find the perfect scarf to match any outfit. They’re also extremely easy to ditch if it becomes too hot.

The most important thing to keep in mind when planning a winter outfit is to think about convenience. It takes a lot more effort to remove layers that don’t have buttons, such as crewneck sweaters and long sleeve shirts, than it is to remove tops like button-downs and cardigans. If you’re sitting at work, for example, you’re not going to want to keep getting up and going somewhere private to change. If you’re wearing a cardigan instead, you can easily remove it without any hassle. This Fashionista’s outfit is a great example of a look that is both stylish and convenient.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Comfort is one of the most important things to take into consideration. Fortunately, there are so many ways to look fashionable and feel comfortable at the same time.”
