One reason I love cold weather is because I can wear layers. Whether it is long coats over thick knits or a chunky scarf over a leather jacket, layering is a perfect way to mix textures and patterns. One major trend I have been noticing on the streets of New York is the poncho. It can be easily thrown over any outfit and adds an extra layer of warmth for the colder months.
Taking inspiration from the See by Chloé fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I tried the look myself. The collection featured huge scarves and knit sweaters with oversized peacoats. I was mostly inspired by the poncho over turtleneck look. The color palette of the collection was mostly neutral, featuring the colors camel, mustard and navy with pops of orange and one pink sweater. My wardrobe mainly consists of blacks, whites and grays, so I worked with what I had.
I styled my Vince Camuto knit poncho over a black turtleneck to mock the same look from the See by Chloé collection. However, I made my outfit edgier by wearing my favorite destroyed denim jeans and a pair of suede, heeled over-the-knee boots. I kept with the school girl theme from See by Chloé by accessorizing with a plaid Tommy Hilfiger bucket bag.
I love this poncho because it can be dressed up over a formal outfit or worn more casual with some jeans, just like how I pieced the outfit together today. With my color palette, I blended in with tall building walls and the concrete sidewalk of Downtown Manhattan. However, I paired my pieces in a unique way, so I still stood out from the crowd and allowed my personality to shine through.
