STYLE GURU STYLE: Pastel Me About It

Season’s Greetings, Fashionista/os! The holiday season is upon us, which means no shortage of family gatherings and parties with friends and/or coworkers. Though finals hang over our heads, there is nothing wrong with doing some outfit prepping before the semester ends. For me, holiday looks have always been very traditional. Most years, I succumb to wearing a little black dress with tights. This year, I have been inspired by Chanel’s fall 2015 collection to switch up my usual ensemble.

The collection maintains the classic, feminine Chanel aesthetic, but with a twist. Pastels pop against darker colors. Tulle and fabric bunched to resemble fur are used to create applied details and trim. I was especially attracted to one particular coat. It is a little puffy, but its mixture of pastel pink and black was statement-making. I love the idea of incorporating pastels for holiday dressing. Pastels bring out the tones of a gorgeous snowy landscape or a winter sunrise. The reds, greens and gold need a little hiatus, in my opinion.

In my Chanel-inspired outfit I wear a black sweater from Banana Republic tucked into a high-waist black skirt. The bottom mimics the cut of a tulip skirt, but is more geometrically shaped. I also have on black sheer tights and tie-up flats. My favorite piece, however, is my Guess pastel pink, faux fur coat. It does not only keep me warm in the winter weather, it also adds interest to my otherwise all-black outfit. To complete the look, I add a long Chanel necklace (stolen from my mom—shhh!). This look says “holiday season,” without including a sweater with a large reindeer on the front. Warm fabrics and bright pastels can be festive, too! Do not be afraid to veer from tradition this holiday season.

Get My Look: 1. The classic skirt with a twist. 2. A precious pair of tie-up flats. 3. A little touch of Chanel. 4. The most fabulous pastel coat.
