Winter has many perks; however, I wouldn’t say the cold is one of them. Yes, layers are awesome and make for a great outfit. However, when trudging from class to class on a college campus, students would much rather wear a heated blanket then a colorful pair of flats. Fortunately, there is an alternative option that allows you to be warm and cute on your walk to class. This includes a good winter coat and everyone’s favorite turtleneck.
When I was younger, I dreaded wearing turtlenecks. I felt restricted in the fabric covering my neck. But the winter classic has grown on me. This season they have been shown on everyone from runway models to bloggers. I found my turtleneck fix in the alice + olivia fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Not only was I drawn to the endless options of turtlenecks, but also the outerwear that was featured. Long boxy coats with fur graced the runways paired with high-waisted skirts, pants and shorts.
I translated these runway trends through my outfit of choice. I paired a burgundy turtleneck with high-waisted trousers. Following with the alice + olivia theme, I chose a black and white print that adds some dimension to the look. To keep myself extra warm, I picked a boyfriend-inspired winter coat from Topshop—I can promise you it will keep the chill away.
Accessories are what complete the look, so I added a gray hat. Did I mention I’m obsessed with gray this season? I’m buying it in everything. My color-blocked purse ties in all the colors featured in my ensemble. Lastly, I added a fur keychain to my bag. Unfortunately, I don’t have a fur coat but that doesn’t mean I can’t rock it on my accessories.
Don’t forget to grab a coffee on your way to class; it makes all the difference.
