‘Tis the season for layers and earthy tones Fashionistas/os!
As a child I was always the one who received scowls for never bringing a jacket. Winter wear for me was piling on enough sweaters and T-shirts so that I could freely play. Fast forward to now, it’s a little bit of the same idea: layering enough to the extent that I’m comfortable.
Taking inspiration from Philip Lim’s ready-to-wear collection spring 2016, I got the idea of how I can transfer the elegant looks of his collection to be worn for the winter while still accounting for warmth. What interested me the most about this collection was the use of earthy tones from silk in combination with leather pieces. It was a battle of the fabrics that ended harmoniously.
His ability to seamlessly combine silk and leather instantly caught my attention however, I knew if I was to interpret this collection I would need to swap fabrics. Silk for the winter in the Midwest is unheard of as temperatures begin to creep lower and lower each day. Therefore, I chose a light weight green sweater and added a light blue button-up underneath. I gravitate towards leggings on any day, so it only made sense to wear them instead of jeans. To add to the leather look, I opted for my knee-length black leather Antonio Melani boots. For accessories, I chose to keep it simple. I added a Fossil watch along with a simple necklace and small earrings.
My favorite part of my look, aside from how comfortable it was, was a twist not seen on any runways yet. Mark my words: the half-up bun hairstyle will be the go-to hairstyle going into 2016. I love putting braids in my hair, or even curling it if I have the time but this effortless look is great for days you want a cute hairstyle in a quick minute. To brace yourself for cold days where having more comfortable outfits becomes a priority, I suggest finding simple ways to create an effortless look. I hope this outfit and hairstyle provides inspiration for you to start your winter style on a positive note!
