If you’ve been following along with my posts, you will recall that I have talked a lot about mixing prints. In fact, my goal for this summer was to stop being timid about mixing prints and try something out of my comfort zone. This past week, I looked to designers for inspiration. I found that many designers mix prints, some that are of similar color or style and some that are completely different. One of these designers that particularly stuck out to me was Stella Jean. Stella Jean is known for mixing outrageous patterns and prints. Her entire fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is filled with a variety of different colors, prints, patterns and textures. I was surprised to find that even outfits that were composed of very dissimilar pieces still looked chic and sophisticated. I decided to try my own hand at mixing prints.
I used an ensemble by Stella Jean for inspiration. I mimicked her choice of mixing stripes with floral prints. I decided to start with something timid. I chose to pair a black and white striped crop top with a floral billowy skirt. I also added a pair of black heels to dress up the look. At first, I was nervous about how the pieces would look, but I loved the endpiece and found it to be very polished and fun. If you’re looking to try something different, I definitely recommend mixing prints.
