I could not be anymore ecstatic that winter is finally here! My favorite items in my winter wardrobe are outerwear and boots. I wish that I could wear those items year-round, because it much more exciting for me to create outfits with them. This season in my closet, I adore my leopard print coat and black knee-high boots the most. When put together, they create a look that is classic and edgy.
While searching for more stylistic inspiration, I always turn to my favorite luxury brand Saint Laurent. In the ready-to-wear fall 2015 collection for Saint Laurent the head designer, Hedi Slimane, created multiple grunge-glam looks that were anchored with black leather boots and fabulous jackets. In the collection, there was a look that caught my eye that featured a gorgeous leopard coat with glossy knee high boots. I knew I could recreate that look on my own with my favorite pieces from closet, as well as put a personal spin on it.
Starting with the garments in this outfit, I wanted to make it more wearable for the weekend, so I chose a classic black dress with a longer hemline to keep it classy. Layered on top of my LBD I added my statement piece, the H&M leopard print coat. Since the Saint Laurent collection featured tons of tall, black leather boots, I added my favorite pair from Gianni Bini.
For accessories, I kept my jewelry simple with gold stud earrings and a couple of delicate rings. I completed the outfit with my staple cross-body bag from Rebecca Minkoff.
Pulling further inspiration from the makeup in the collection, I created a toned-down version of the bold black eye makeup. Instead of full on black eyes, I chose grey, smoky eyes and a matte red lip. I also have coordinating red nails and lips to create another level of cohesion in my look.
I find that it is a lot more exciting to find looks to re-create that are meant for rock stars, because it makes everyday life as a college student more fun! With the right inspiration, it is so easy to adapt and create you’re own look based on luxury designer collections. Styling makes all the difference when it comes to starting with pieces that are already in your closet.
