Adorning pants under dresses can be seen as odd and socially unacceptable. Yet I’m continuously captivated by the juxtaposition of the pieces coordinating well to create an effortlessly cool and warm outfit for the occasional Texas fall day. Helmut Lang’s edgy monochromatic fall ready-to-wear 2014 collection inspired me to create my own version.
I reminisce on being a high school student obsessed with print and bold colors. Planning my weekly ensembles the Sunday before, it was my objective to wake and go without the recklessness of worrying about my wardrobe. I’d like to say I’ve remained that punctual individual but college happened. Today’s look originated from 10 minutes to look presentable due to oversleeping—in this case, college finals y’all! In these moments, I’m influenced by the effortlessness and edge of Lang and versatile (and easy to throw on!) pieces of my closet. With just enough time to catch the campus bus I was pleased with this pairing.
No longer able to extensively plan, I have to trust my intuition in the mornings even if that means selecting odd pieces together and then walking straight out of the door. Monochrome palettes are continuously refreshing and automatically edgy. In an refreshing monochrome palette and favorite of mine, this navy ensemble is able to transform from day to night, especially useful for long final days. No longer requiring the night before to plan my looks, I simply trust the edginess of Helmut Lang and versatile pieces of my closet for wardrobe success—as should you!
