Hey there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I’m Alexandra, and this is my third semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am a third-year at the University of South Florida with a major in Mass Communications, and a concentration in Magazine Journalism. I live in Tampa but I hope to move to New York City after I graduate next fall. I ultimately aspire to work with a fashion magazine in the big city!
Fashion has always been a passion of mine. I have been playing dress-up from about age five and have been doing so ever since. I love sitting in my room, tearing through the newest fashion magazines, both for the styles and trends in them, and for the writing that I hope to be a part of some day.
I always loved dressing myself, and my mother let me have my phases and experiment with what I loved most: fashion. I have gone through preppy phases, grunge phases and everything in-between, and I am finally getting my true style down. I have experimented with my style and it has changed alongside me; I find that fashion is the easiest way to express yourself. It is a way to describe who you are and showcase your personality, all without saying a word. Creativity has always been a huge part of my life, and it overflows into everything that I do, whether it be how I dress or what I write. Although I am such a creative person, I do find it ironic that the color you will see me most often in is black.
I love black because it is sleek and sophisticated, and a little black dress is never too formal nor too casual. After all, if I’m going to make a name for myself in Manhattan, I have to get used to wearing all-black, right? I love adding pops of color to my outfits through accessories like shoes, scarves, jewelry or a bold lip. I’ve recently gotten into mixing different patterns and playing with textures, like these sweet white lace shorts paired with the edgy details on this studded faux leather jacket. I balanced the look with a black layered tassel necklaces and varied pearl, charm and Alex & Ani bracelets. I added the trendy element of fringe to this ensemble with the small but surprisingly roomy black fringe cross-body bag. Finally, for the most important part of the outfit, the shoes! I rocked my edgy but totally fun quilted black booties.
