Hey guys! I’m so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista for my third semester! It is crazy how quickly time flies when you’re having fun. My name is Maedla and I am currently a senior in my final semester at the University of Toronto where I study History and European Studies. Since I am not at present involved in any studies that pertain to fashion, this internship is a great way to express my creativity and imagination. It is also a great excuse to spend some time online shopping without purchasing anything!
I find most of my inspiration for my outfits and makeup by reading a collection of different magazines. My top three favorites are Vogue, Marie Claire and NYLON magazine. By reading the different sections in each and browsing the editorials and advertisements, it helps me to appreciate how different fabrics, cuts and textures work together to create a complete, cohesive look. Another source of inspiration for beauty and fashion is YouTube, which is great tool for learning step-by-step instructions and tips on applying makeup and hairstyles. It is also a great place to discover cool shops and stores that I would otherwise not know. It has helped me to reinvent a more distinct style and use products that are better suited to my taste.
Lately my style has been extremely preppy. I tend to wear a lot of skirts and dresses, because I think they are great for styling a variety of different outfits. For this look I went with a ‘70s feel with the A-line cut of the dress and the funky geometric pattern. I tend to wear a lot of neutrals, so for me patterns are the perfect way to add some interest to my outfits. I also added a satchel bag and a pair of loafers, which I found at my local vintage shop. Hunting through vintage shops is a great way to be able to get unique and unexpected accessories and jewelry that ensure that you get a one of a kind piece.
To complete my outfit I choose a simple necklace, earrings and bracelet all in gold hardware. My favorite piece in this outfit is the sunglasses. The frames have a slight point to them, which reminds me of cat ears.
I look forward to discovering a wide range of different Fashionista/os and capturing their unique styles to feature here.
