Hi there! My name is Emma Steiger and I’m a junior at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I’m a theater major concentrating in acting, directing and performance studies with a minor in dance education. After graduation I intend to move to New York City and pursue a career in theater education for underprivileged children. However, fashion is something that I have always been intrigued by.
Growing up in Los Angeles, I was immersed in a world of style. Los Angeles has a very specific dynamic and a lot of it has to do with the various fashion trends explored here. My mom is a huge fashionista and used to love to dress me up in the trendiest baby and kids clothes when I was younger. She used to joke that I was the most well dressed baby in pre-school. Her love of fashion sparked an interest in me from a young age. I taught myself how to sew and knit, and started experimenting with making my own clothes (that didn’t go over as well as I had planned). My friends and I would spend most of our time at the mall blowing the $20 we had gotten for allowance; usually on something from Forever 21 or Sephora.
During my first year at Muhlenberg I was in a freshman seminar called “Fashioning Identity” in which we learned how fashion is informed by culture. The writing assistant for our class approached me about wanting to start a fashion society on campus and asked if I’d be interested. I helped start the club as secretary and, at the end of my freshman year when the president and VP were graduating, I was voted in as president where I’ve since remained. When I’m home for breaks I work at BabyGap/Gap Kids, which is a fun way to stay immersed in the fashion world while getting the pleasure of working with kids.
My fashion sense is often described as trendy and sleek. I’m a big fan of wearing neutrals with a pop of flare. I love spicing things up with a pair of unique shoes, like these Madewell loafers, or a cute backpack purse from Fossil. I get a lot of inspiration from trends I find on Pinterest and Instagram. My favorite brands include alice + olivia, Splendid, AllSaints, Madewell and, of course, Gap (their jeans rock).
I’m so excited to share all the latest trends on campus with you! Check back at the beginning of each month for the most recent post!
