Hello, Fashionistas! My name is Emily Bogner and I am currently a junior at Marist College. I am very excited to be part of the Style Guru team. I am studying fashion merchandising with a concentration in fashion promotion. Throughout my college experience so far, I have been able to discover more about who I am, my passions and my aspirations in my life. I have discovered that I have a creative mind with a unique way of thinking.
I grew up in California, but moved to New York for college. I studied abroad in Paris and I think this was the time that I truly learned about my style and most of my passions that I currently pursuing. I am advocate for kids with learning disabilities (as I am dyslexic), a freelance stylist, a waitress, a songwriter, an inventor, a model, a student and an event planner. I think all these tasks I do on a daily basis can lead me to a future that I want to achieve. This may seem like a lot but don’t worry! I have 54 Reminders on my iPhone so I can remember everything.
My friends call me the “business woman” because I am constantly doing what they say is doing way too much—but I am making things happen. It’s hard for me to sit idle. However, I see this as giving myself constant opportunities and choices. I feel that putting lots of things out into the universe will help me eventually achieve end goals and see results, which is something I learned about myself in college.
In terms of fashion, I am an active vintage shopper and a huge fan of matching different patterns and fabrics together in order to get a more complete look. I have a very retro-redefined look that most people don’t quite understand how I can pull off. However, I look at it as my individual style that makes me feel confident.
My style icon and inspiration is Iris Apfel as she is what people called the “mother of fashion.” Her personality, ambitions, motivations, passions and success has taught me that being yourself is what is important in the end in addition to following your goals and dreams.
In this look, all my clothing is from either Goodwill, swap meet or the National Council for Jewish Women Thrift Store. I am wearing vegan pleather black leggings from Sanctuary, with a fall A-line coat from Tasha Polizzi Collection with embroidered flower decor and fur leopard sleeves. On my waist, over the jacket, I am wearing a mental silver belt with flower decor and lace-up black leather studded military-style boots.
