Hey, I’m Caity and I’m a sophomore at the University of South Florida. I’m a brand new Style Guru and I’m very excited to become a part of it. I’m working on my Bachelor’s Degree in Art.
Up until about two months or so, I was a Business major with a plan to attend Savannah College of Art and Design for a degree in Fashion Marketing and Management after USF. I’ve always loved art, but it never seemed like an option as a degree. A little research and a lot of thought led me to change my major to my passion. I’m still going to go to SCAD, just going on a different path.
Growing up, I went to private schools with strict dress codes. I would always try to add a little flair, but the navy blue trousers and gray collared shirts just were not me. My junior year, I transferred to a public school and truly found myself. This was my calling to fashion. I could wear whatever colored jacket I wanted, experiment with hair and makeup (not always successfully) and really express myself through my clothes and style. It was incredible and I loved every second of it. After all, I had been wearing uniforms for 12 years prior to this.
For me, fashion and art are cut from the same cloth (excuse the pun). Each influences and inspires the other. Changing my major is recent, but the impact of art on my life is not. As a child, I could color for hours and art was my favorite class of the day. I credit a lot of my passion for art to my high school art teacher. Before her class, art was a hobby that I did to pass time in classes instead of writing notes. She showed me that art can become so much more and it can influence people everywhere. I believe art is the universal language and the perfect medium to discuss politics, religion, abstract thoughts and everything else you can think of.
In this outfit, I’m wearing a flannel button-down, utility jacket, fedora, leather purse and distressed boyfriend jeans. These are my daily essentials for a comfortable and modern take on grunge fashion.
