Hi Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I’m back for my third semester as a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista, and I’m so excited to be writing for you all again.
As a Fashion Business Management major at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I get to see all of the latest trends through the point of view of so many different students. With such a diverse student body, with Fashionistas and Fashionistos from all over the world, I get to see how the same trend translates differently across all styles and cultures. The style here can best be defined as experimental; no trend is too crazy and nothing is off limits here at FIT.
As for my style, I love investing in pieces that I’ll be able to wear for a long time. That’s not to say that I don’t love to partake in the latest trends, but I like to spin them in a way that will make it so that I can wear it for years to come, even after the fad has passed.
I would describe my style as minimal with a feminine and edgy twist. I love neutral colors, but I try to stay away from black as often as possible. Instead, I love white, gray and blush. Gem tones like navy, emerald and ruby work wonders for adding some life back into my super pale skin.
My outfit above is my take on the ’70s trend. My new denim culottes have wide, rectangular pockets, a flared leg and a frayed hem. They are so much more comfortable than skinny jeans. The faded blue wash and whiskering hits at exactly the right spots on the leg, making them surprisingly flattering. I paired them with nude pointed flats to add some more femininity and a plain T-shirt to add a more classic and comfy touch to an otherwise trendy outfit. Any other top would have been too much, and I never want to look over-styled. Lastly, I wore my fringed loop cardigan. In an off white, it is perfect for the winter months. It’s so warm, and I love how long it is. I wanted to pick an outer layer that would be on trend, but would also add some coziness. I could also pair this with a basic pair of black jeans, a T-shirt and some black booties, to make the cardigan the focus.
I love pieces that can be styled in different ways, that way they always look new and fresh. I can’t wait to share more of my campus style with you guys. Until then, enjoy the holidays.
