Hi my fellow Fashionistas! My name is Amanda Lough and I am a Fashion Merchandising major with a minor in Media Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Moving to a city took a bit of getting used to because I am from a small town in Northern Virginia that sits along the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a hard adjustment with the chaos a city comes with. However, there is no other city I would rather be in. Richmond is filled with expression, passion and individuality. Especially with having an Arts school, there is no room but to only be yourself. That is something I truly love about my school. Every single person has their own particular style that gives people a glance of who you are. Richmond really pushes you to be yourself. VCU has already pushed me try new things in fashion and take risks. In Richmond, there is nothing to be afraid of. It has made me much more confident in my outfit because I know that I will not be judged. There isn’t a more perfect place to be YOU. I can’t say that I have one specific style. Honestly, I like what I like. It can be anything from grunge to boho to preppy. You could see me in a classy almost all-black outfit or in blue jeans, riding boots and a button-down. My style is very diverse. There are so many unique styles, I couldn’t just pick one. I am not one to spend a lot of money when shopping for my personal wardrobe. You can always catch me buying things on sale from thrift shop or still wearing items I have had for years. With all of the weather confusion in Virginia, it is hard to know what to wear. One day it is 40 degrees, and the next it is 70. Here I am wearing a comfy T-shirt dress from Marshalls, paired with a cream flowy cardigan from Kohls. To accessorize, I wore brown riding boots from Stein Mart and one of my favorite necklaces from LaCle. Lastly for a little more detail, I am wearing a rustic colored Free People copper bralette. I can’t wait to share my love for fashion with all of you this semester! As Rachel Zoe says, “Style is way to say who you are without having to speak it.”
