Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Cherileigh and I’m a junior studying journalism at Ryerson University. This is my third semester as a Style Guru. I’m also starting as an editorial intern for College Fashionista.
On campus, I’m usually at class or studying (more like procrastinating) in our new building, the Student Learning Centre, also known as the SLC. There’s always something happening in Toronto whether it’s a concert, film festival or ice skating in Nathan Phillips Square. When I go shopping, I look for the best deal, and Toronto has many thrift shops and vintage stores to my liking. From ugly Christmas sweaters at Black Market to vintage T-shirts and purses at House of Vintage, there’s an endless supply of cool finds.
Scoping out for campus style is a lot of fun. The way people decide what to wear is interesting to me. It makes me happy when I make someone’s day, by asking to take their picture just because I love their outfit.
Personally, my style during the winter is all about keeping warm, but I can’t resist wearing my cuffed ripped jeans. The coat is cozy yet chic and it’s from Forever 21. Also, my blanket scarf and beanie are absolute necessities. I’m definitely a hat person, so I try to wear a different one every day. Finally, my H&M ankle boots are a perfect fit because they’re the staple black boots every Fashionista needs to have in their wardrobe, but at an affordable price.
When I’m not at school or shooting for College Fashionista, I’m a snowboard instructor during the winter. Despite the cold weather, I enjoy working with the kids. In the future, however I want to work for a fashion magazine, particularly Flare, ELLE Canada or NYLON. It’s exciting and daunting to think I’m almost finished with my time at Ryerson. But for now, I’m looking forward to seeing many stylish posts this semester.
