Hello again, Fashionistas/os! I’m Lauren. I’m a junior journalism and mass communications major, my hair is naturally big, and this is my sixth semester with CollegeFashionista! I really can’t believe it’s been that long though; I feel like I just started yesterday.
I have learned so much throughout these six semesters. I’ve learned how to write about fashion and I’ve learned how to photograph street style. But even more importantly, I’ve learned about self-confidence. I’ve learned how to approach others to ask to take their picture. I still get nervous, but that is something I wouldn’t have even considered doing before this internship. I’ve learned to promote myself on social media, again something I was too intimidated to do six semesters ago. CollegeFashionista has given me a community of support to build my personal style and share the personal styles of others.
My personal style draws a lot from vintage. I love thrift shopping and consignment shopping, and I love looking at fashion images from decades ago. My winter style is generally a ginormous sweater, a pair of skinny jeans and Chelsea boots with some sort of red or berry lipstick. However, in this outfit I decided to dress it up a bit. I love this corduroy Free People skirt because of the flattering A-line shape and the muted floral pattern, which makes it perfect for winter. Then, I added a cropped Free People sweater with a cross-over detail in the front. I added a pair of fairly sheer stockings to show just a bit of skin, and I slipped into a pair of simple black loafers that added a menswear touch.
Next, I added some jewelry because an outfit of mine is never complete without it. I have been wearing this Alex and Ani Hand of Fatima necklace nearly every day since I bought it. Then, I chose a beautiful moon ring from Free People and an engraved silver ring with a bird design I bought from a local art gallery. Finally, I smoothed a berry-colored Burt’s Bees lip crayon over my lips for some organic color.
I have a huge passion for seeing how other people get creative with their personal styles. I draw my inspiration from it. That’s why I joined the CollegeFashionista team. I can’t wait to show you the personal style of the St. Bonaventure community this semester!
