My name is Laurise McMillian, and this is my second to last semester at the University of Baltimore. I guess you could say I’m a senior—that’s what I’ve been telling everyone, anyway.
Okay, I’ll admit that I’m a little bitter that I won’t be graduating in May with the rest of my friends here in the digital communications program, but it’s cool. Even though I’ll be walking the stage later than expected, I’m still super happy with my college career so far. This will be my third semester as a Style Guru, and I’m so excited to be back. I double as a social media intern, so be sure to follow @CFashionista on Instagram.
In addition to CF, I’ve had a bunch of fun internship experiences over the past few years. This summer I scored my dream internship with MTV’s social media marketing team in NYC, and this January I’ll be heading back to the Big Apple to work as a web editorial intern at ELLE magazine. I think enjoy interning so much because I like what I do. As a media major, I make stuff for the Internet. I create everything from video to GIFs and graphics to copy. Recently, I just accepted a part-time job working for Bustle as an app curator. Basically it’s my job to dig for Internet gold. I find what’s poppin’ online—GIFs, memes, articles, social media posts—and I put it on the app for people to check out all in one convenient place. It’s a lot of fun.
When I’m not working on a creative project or scouring the web, I’m lying in bed watching Comedy Central with my boyfriend. He’s my best friend. We have a lot in common, even when it comes to fashion. Lately I’ve been trying to soften my look just a little bit. I’m usually head to toe in velvet or leather, but today I’m rocking a camel turtleneck under a tan fur vest with black skinnies and strappy flats. I’m always switching it up; life’s too short to be afraid of trying new things!
