STYLE GURU BIO: Julianna Paul

Greetings, fellow Fashionistas/os! It’s your girl, Julianna, and this is my second semester as a Style Guru intern. I had a blast this fall with these articles and photoshoots and am so excited to return this spring!

I am a senior premed at the University of Southern California, and I have dreamed of becoming a doctor since I was a little girl watching ER with my mom. Despite my career goals, I have always admired the fashion industry. I plan on immersing myself in its many facets and idiosyncrasies before I fully infiltrate the world of white coats and scrubs 24/7.

For me, fashion can be therapeutic, liberating and transformative. We all have off days (I know that I have had plenty) and unfortunate circumstances that are out of our control. In times like these, I appreciate the things that I can control and turn to them for comfort. Often when I do not feel my best, I try to look my best. This is not merely to keep up appearances or for compliments (though compliments are the best). In the same way that entering a relaxing and uncluttered space can soothe an anxious mind, rocking a great look has a positive effect on myself when I am feeling down. It boosts my self-esteem and gives me the strength to keep going until the situation is resolved. If I’m already feeling great, then my outfit underscores my sentiments and hopefully sends good vibes to others.

California is finally starting to exhibit signs of winter (our version). Though this is my favorite time of year, I always freak out when it is time to get dressed. I hate being cold, so I often feel limited in my clothing options. I am in my element during the other seasons, boldly stepping out in a crop top and maxi skirt, a crop top and a flared skirt or a crop top and high-waisted pants. I basically wear a lot of crop tops. This is nearly impossible during the winter. However, for those days that I am forced to leave the comfort of my fleece robe or onesie, I do try my best.

In this look, I am keeping it simple with the earth tones with a hint of color. I went with a sweater with high-waisted jeans, and tall boots. I added a leather jacket to stay warm but chic and completed my outfit with my favorite hat.
