Hey there, Fashionistas/os! My name is Raiya and this upcoming spring will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I am a third-year fashion design student at Philadelphia University and I love the way students use their unique style of dress to express themselves.
I knew that fashion was my passion for as long as I can remember. As early as grade school I began sketching designs in my notebooks and continued to pursue my passion through to high school.
From ninth through twelfth grades, I attended Burlington County Institute of Technology as a Fashion Design and Merchandising student. Over that four-year period, I competed in design competitions and won STATE and STAR events for FCCLA (Future Career Community Leaders of America). By my senior year I knew that I wanted to continue to venture down the road of fashion hence the reason I am currently studying at PhilaU.
As a design student, going to a private college in the city allows for infinite muses and trend inspirations. There is so much diversity in style and students do a phenomenal job in conveying their creativity through their appearance. My personal taste is a reflection of my mood. For example, on a dreary day when I my mood is mellow, I’m still able to achieve an effortlessly chic ensemble. A simple black crop top paired with a denim overall dress is a simplistic way to make a bold statement. When the temperature drops leg warmers are a trendy way to ensure warmth and comfort and you can never go wrong with combat boots.
As the semester progresses, I look forward to sharing other creative fashions with all of you. Stay tuned fellow Fashionistas/os!
