STYLE GURU STYLE: Neutral According to Alberta Ferretti

In my personal opinion, the best fashion comes straight from the Pre-Fall runway shows.  This year, I have been obsessing over Alberta Ferretti’s new line which displays long dresses printed with paisley’s in neutral colors—very boho-chic.

Since I go to school in the fabulous city of Chicago, the vast majority of style typically incorporates an abundance of black and white. Since I am irrevocably obsessed with street style blogs, it’s only natural that I would tend to dress and mimic outfits that are shown by these personal stylists.  But going to an art school has made me appreciate individuality in fashion more-so than ever. As I was taking apart in my morning ritual of scrolling vigorously through Vogue.com, I noticed Ferretti’s new line and fell in love.  I decided right then and there that I was going to start wearing paisley-printed neutrals in order to stand out from the crowd.

In order to have my own personal take on this runway look — also inspired by the Anthropologie-obsessed blogger, Karissa Marie—I decided that I would go for the whimsical yet neutral printed outfit for this week’s statement ensemble.  My favorite part about dressing with neutrals versus black and white, is the ability to incorporate more color than normal into the look.

My look’s statement piece is this abstract printed dress with gorgeous pleating, adorned with a soft belt. This dress could definitely be worn on it’s own, but I decided to pair it with a deep red faux leather jacket, ankle socks and heeled booties. Since the dress could be seen as more of an elegant piece, incorporating leather is the sure-fire way to go when wanting to dress-down a closet essential that you love.

My personal style typically incorporates very dark colors and an abundance of black.  After my first semester at an art school, I have learned that branching out from your “safe-fashion” can boost your street-style cred, as well as, allow you to stand out from the crowd.
