For this month’s STYLE GURU STYLE, I’m taking inspiration from Louis Vuitton’s spring 2016 runway show. Louis Vuitton is no stranger to a great accessory, but this show took leather to a whole new level. Models looked edgy and fierce in structured moto jackets, styled with different prints and textures.
For this look, I styled a moto jacket with comfortable pieces to best fit my personal style. The jacket, which is slightly fitted in the waste to avoid boxiness, was super affordable from Forever 21. I paired the jacket with a classic flannel to soften the look and add some extra comfort. I had originally thrown on a pair of black skinny jeans, but the look seemed a tad too harsh for my taste. I couldn’t resist and added a staple necklace for that touch of sparkle. I then finished it off with some black suede booties. I found these gems for a whopping $20, and although I have yet to describe a pair of heels as comfortable, these booties have survived eight hour work days and a full day of classes.
I’m often apprehensive when stepping outside my personal comfort zone, and taking fashion risks is no exception. Leather can be quite daunting for the girl who prides herself in wearing sparkles and stripes, but testing trends and mixing styles are all part of the fashion game. What I like most about this look is the integration of an edgy piece into my seemingly girly style. This just goes to show you that any trend can be styled for your liking.
