Hola my fellow Fashionistas/os, My name is Jennifer Mota and I am a Communication Studies major.
I am originally from Manhattan, New York, but I was raised and currently live in the city of brotherly love (Philadelphia). I consider myself a city girl because I absolutely love everything about the city. I love the buildings, the fast pace, the mix of subcultures walking around and most importantly the stores!
I can say my love for fashion sprouted out of no where, but over time I have realized that this isn’t the case. As a kid I was introduced to many cultures and genres of music. My parents are both Dominican immigrants who first learned English through the music that was popular around that particular time. A lot of Madonna, Classic Rock, Billy Joel, ’80s Pop and Guns ‘n’ Roses was played in my casa. I loved the music, but what I really loved was watching interviews and videos with my dad. The style and trends that the different artists had always caught my eye and at a very young age influenced me into recreating certain looks.
Throughout my college years I played with different styles and looks. I had a phase that everything I wore was off, I had no balance and interests in what I was wearing. That slowly started changing when I got my first job in the city. During lunch I would walk around different stores and the street fashion motivated me to find a style of my own. My style transitioned from tom-boyish, to girly florals, to an all-thrifted clothing dirty sneakers wearing hipster.
I am loving my current phase. I believe I now have balance in my outfits and it’s a combination of all my different phases. I have days that I will rock a vintage men’s sports jersey or oversized crewneck and I have days in which I will aim for a more minimal look.
One thing is for sure, a lot of my looks are inspired by past actresses, moments, music and movies throughout the past decades. The look I’m sporting now is inspired by ’60s Mod and the Beatnik Movement. The turtleneck ribbed dress is a piece that is super trendy right now. To complete my look I wore my vintage denim jacket, beret and boots. One important fact about me is that I LOVE men digital watches the rose gold Nixon that I have is currently my fave.
I hope to one day combine what I learn as a communications major and interests in fashion into my career. Thanks for reading, can’t wait to have a RAD semester!
