My style inspiration for this week came from the fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection from Ralph Lauren. The entire collection, which is filled with army greens, cozy cream sweaters, turtlenecks and multi-colored suedes and fringe, inspired me to wear one of my favorite pieces in my closet.
The main focus of my Ralph Lauren-inspired outfit is my vintage Ralph Lauren suede fringe poncho. My godmother passed it down to me this summer after seeing the ’70s heavy influence on today’s style. Although slightly difficult to style, since it can easily overpower my small frame, I wore army green paneled leggings to offset the wideness of the poncho. My Frye granny boots matched perfectly with the poncho. This collection has a strong western and equestrian influence that Ralph Lauren is known for, with added touches from the ’70s-style turtlenecks, flare pants and fringe details. The ’70s vibes influenced me to add a turtleneck underneath, especially since it makes this outfit much more winter friendly. Many of the handbags had fringe details, just like the tooled one I wore.
Once I looked at this collection I instantly knew how to style my poncho, which I have attempted to wear about a dozen times unsuccessfully. Ralph Lauren’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection has the amount of ’70s meets western fashion that I love. Since the colors and textures are so in right now, I was able to put my outfit together with items I already owned. It’s not easy to find a suede poncho today, but it is much easier to find a suede fringe jacket, which is what I would suggest purchasing since it is more versatile for an everyday look.
