Winter is about to be in full force, so keeping warm is the only thing on this Southern Fashionista’s mind. Taking inspiration from one of our favorite elementary and middle school fashions, the poncho has returned as one of winter’s hottest trends.
Wrapping up in a cozy knit cardigan is great, but this poncho is so much easier to throw on, and it’s a perfect statement piece for your winter wardrobe. You can layer a chunky sweater underneath, or keep it cooler with a lightweight T-shirt. This poncho in particular can easily transition from running errands during the day to a dinner date in the evening. Swap out a scarf and leggings for a statement necklace and dark jeans, or leather pants and you have completely transformed the vibe of your outfit.
This Fashionista chose to embrace neutral colors with her look. Under her poncho, she wore a classic gray sweater to accentuate the varying shades of gray in the poncho. Her pants are a darker navy, which breaks up the grayscale outfit. The fringe on her boots mimics the fringe on her poncho; these fun extra-high boots give the outfit an edge. I also love the teal beaded necklace with this poncho. The rich textures and slightly varied colors of the beads are similar to the look of the fibers in the knit poncho, and warm blues in the necklace perfectly balance all of the other dark, wintry colors. It’s those subtle details that can really pull an outfit together.
