WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

Scenario: It’s the first week of classes, and your entire campus is covered in two feet of snow. You ask yourself, “Is it even possible to look somewhat put together when the temperature won’t hit double digits?” Before you call it quits and settle for snow pants and a parka, take a look at how we like to stay stylish and warm at here at Ferris State University.

One of my favorite things about winter fashion is layering, and the endless possibilities that come with it. Start with a basic sweater in a neutral tone (bonus points if it’s a turtleneck) and you now have the freedom to add whatever you’d like. These frigid winter months serve as the perfect opportunity to experiment with different types of scarves, hats, mittens and any other winter staple. My daily outfit for heading to class usually consists of some type of sweater with a knit scarf, puffer vest, skinny jeans and some cute snow boots to complete the look.

This Fashionista had the right idea by pairing her sweater and dark jeans with simple accessories. The black infinity scarf and matching mittens kept her warm and cozy during the walk to class. Her floppy hat added the perfect minimalistic touch to her outfit while keeping the wind and snow out of her hair. Hunter boots have been increasingly popular over the past few years due to their London-chic design, impressive durability and tall socks in a fun hue keep your toes warm while adding a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. Her camel, trenchcoat featured black leather panels on the arms and shoulders, adding a touch of edge while remaining in her color scheme. The plaid tote topped off the outfit perfectly and brought attention to her red, knit, boot socks.

Battling winter in Michigan is no easy task, but this Fashionista perfectly displayed how easy it is to stay toasty while still embracing your own personal style. My advice? Layer up on the sweaters, coats and scarves,

One Simple Change: Still braving the subzero temperatures on your way to class but there’s no snow? Lucky you! Ditch the tall boots and opt for some warm ankle booties in dark gray or black, even cuter when you cuff your jeans and let some fun socks peek out a bit!
