STYLE GURU STYLE: On The Fringe

Fringe was all over the runway during fashion week but I was never quite brave enough to try the look myself. Maybe I was scared off by my mom’s long-running criticism of fringe boots or maybe the trend reminded me a little too much of the western movies my great-grandpa used to watch, but I stayed far away from the fringe skirts and jackets that trickled into all of my favorite stores. That is however, until I was inspired by Neil Barrett’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection.

Neil Barrett’s sleek leather fringe skirts and dresses were a modern alternative to the cowgirl-chic fringe I had always passed on. To get a similar look, I invested in this BLANKNYC vegan leather jacket. Like in Neil Barrett’s spring collection, the long leather fringe creates a cool, contemporary look suitable for any city girl. My jacket’s vegan alternative to leather is also easier to maintain than other common fringe materials, which are often fussy.

Neil Barrett’s spring collection emphasized long silhouettes and bold, sleek pleats but I wanted to opt for a casual, campus friendly look. I paired my statement jacket with my favorite pair of jeans instead of one of Neil Barrett’s long, leather fringe skirts.

I wanted my fringe jacket to be the focal point of my look but wanted to stay warm! I paired it with a blanket scarf and brown booties for a chilly day on campus. Blanket scarves are perfect for early classes and lazy days; just throw one over your favorite sweater and try not to be late to that early morning lecture.

Get My Look: 1. Fringe jacket. 2. Blanket scarf. 3. Booties.
