STYLE GURU STYLE: Two Eggs Over Yeezy

Minimalism is an idea that in my mind typically falls under the category of unicorns and mermaids. It’s a beautiful thought and I love the idea of it, but at the end of the day I know I’m too big of a hot mess to actually achieve it. But hey, it’s 2016 people, New year, new me. Maybe I can achieve a minimalistic lifestyle/wardrobe within the next 365 days and still manage to keep my room clean. My expectations are low and the odds are against me but I can tell you one thing that won’t change this year, and that is my love for Kanye West.

Say what you want about Kanye, but he’s lyrically gifted and his sense of style always blows me away. For this look I took inspiration from the monochromatic and simplistic color palette of the Yeezy spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The simplistic pieces on the runway were unisex and consisted of sweatshirts, boots, leggings and outerwear.

I based my whole outfit around my obsession with leggings. Athleisure-wear is really having a moment right now and I am more than happy to embrace it. The idea of being able to wear workout clothes in a stylish way is absolutely brilliant and I think every person should get behind this movement. You can be super comfortable but really chic all at once and it’s amazing. To keep my outfit somewhat monochromatic, I wore an oversized wool sweater and a gray jacket. The silhouette of my jacket reminded me a lot of those worn on the runway and it helped recreate the layers seen throughout the collection. For accessories I added a large bag and a baseball cap. I’ve been lusting over the Yeezy Boost 350’s on Pinterest, but they were sold out on the adidas website. They also cost more than my rent so I opted for practicality and wore a pair of black Nike running shoes. I completed the look with a serious facial expression because, in the wise words of Yeezus, “not smiling on the outside makes me smile on the inside.”

Get My Look: 1. Your favorite baseball cap. 2. A pair of leggings. 3. An oversized sweater.
