We’ve all heard Taylor Swift’s hit song “Style” at least once (or 500 times, if you’re me). As Swift mentions red lips in her song, I thought about how this classic look has been around for ages and never goes out of style. Red lipstick began with the beautiful Cleopatra to the iconic Marilyn Monroe and now to our girl, T Swift, and evolved into one of society’s definitions of classy and elegant.
In my everyday look, I can never get enough of red lipstick. Personally, I like to go for a lip stain so I don’t have to worry about constantly reapplying throughout the day. I was immediately drawn to the Céline spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection and how each model beautifully wore cherry red lips to contrast their monochrome outfits and fair skin. Many models in the collection captured the sophisticated ’90s-inspired look of a long skirt or dress that reminded me of what I like to incorporate into my own wardrobe.
I took inspiration from this collection by combining my favorite matte red lip stain with a black ribbed maxi skirt and gray suede cropped blazer. Adding a simple blend of silver eye shadow tones and jewelry can provide an extra shine to your look. I paired my flowing skirt with my go-to ankle boots as some of the models did as well. What I love about ankle boots is that they have just enough of a heel to dress your entire outfit up without it being too much. And of course, I could not complete this outfit until I added even more bling in my studded black leather clutch.
There’s just something about wearing red lipstick that creates an awestruck beauty for a woman. Don’t be afraid to rock those red lips like me, and I promise we’ll never go out of style!
