Hi everyone! My name is Kayla Cooper, and this is my second rodeo as a Style Guru; I couldn’t be more ecstatic. I am a fashion design major, and it is my sophomore year at SUNY Ulster.
I like to define my sense of style as unique and my favorite fashion must-have is my wool hat, of course! I really enjoy trends, but I believe you can’t be a trendsetter if you’re following everyone else. Will Smith, from back in the day when he wrote “In west Philadelphia born and raised” is my favorite fashion icon.
I didn’t realize until after high school that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. I thought it was a far stretch to begin so late, but I tried anyway. After taking a few fashion courses, I realized I’d like to transfer to pursue a degree in Visual Merchandising. I really enjoy the idea of creating an outfit; for me, it’s like creating a work of art.
I was given the opportunity to work with a hair stylist to introduce fashion in her hair salon. Every month, I style a mannequin in her shop on my free time. It really helps and brings my creativity to life, and it’s a great way to practice my visual merchandising skills.
Eventually, I hope to get the chance to bring my creations to life working with retail companies.
CollegeFashionista has been a great stepping stone to grow and learn in the fashion industry. I really enjoy meeting new people, who come from different perspectives, and it’s always great being able to follow along with other Fashionista’s on their experiences around the country.
