I have never really been a fan of plaid in any shape or form on me. It might be, because the traditional plaid pattern utilizes more than three colors, which is something I tend not to like; I find plaid to be too busy of a pattern. Yet, when shopping recently I saw a windowpane plaid print, which I immediately fell in love with! It is simple, yet adds just enough interest to any plain old white button-up shirt. It features crisp, clean bold lines, which is also something that I am drawn to! With my newfound love for this print I was delighted to see this pattern heavily featured in the Hermès spring 2016 ready-to-wear show.
This year under the guidance of Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, Hermès was able to create a runway show that was true to its self and brand: the essence of a French woman. This woman is simple, yet feminine and does not worry about anything. For me, I always look at the latest French Vogue for inspiration, because French style appears effortless yet so inspiring. The Hermès show showcased an awry of dresses, trousers and lightweight coats; perfect for the upcoming warmer weather. The clean lines, and neutral colors fit effortlessly together. While the collection looks amazing as a whole, each piece has the ability to also stand on its own, adding to its versatility.
By far my favourite look from Vanhee-Cybulski’s collection was a leather top with my new favourite print in a trouser. Inspired by this I opened my closet to find the perfect outfit to wear to brunch with friends. I paired a button-up shirt in the windowpane pattern with a pleated leather skirt. With a neutral base, I choose to have fun with my shoes. A bold floral high heel adds an unexpected and fun aspect. The plaid also works well, because it is not an overbearing pattern that will clash with the shoes.
To complete my look I kept my jewelry simple with a pair of gold studs and a necklace. My makeup was also very simple with a nude lip. This outfit is perfect for brunch with friends or a day at the office. With a simple base you can change your accessory allowing it to work for any occasion. It was an unaccepted surprise that I fell in love with this outfit, because it is something that I would never pair together. This may just be my new go to outfit!
