STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Romper Remix

During the insane blizzard which recently took over my school, grounds were a sea of UGGs, sweatpants and parkas. Classes and dining halls were a sad monotony of winter clothing as shivering students forewent style in exchange for easy warmth. Well, not this Fashionista.

What struck me about the look was her transition of the romper, a typically warm weather piece in a feminine floral pattern, to the winter season. Many girls out there (myself included) tend to shy away from such a daring choice, but this Fashionista makes it look easy and effortless. Never fear, we too can rock the winter romper by taking a few simple cues from her look.

There are two essential keys to making the romper work for cold weather, the first being a dark color palette. Darker, cooler tones fit the season best and add to the easiness of the look. Here, this Fashionista dons her romper in rich blue and green shades, a neutral which provides contrast for the purple and gold floral pattern. The rest of the outfit is dark and neutral as well, consisting of beiges and blacks which complement the romper while letting it be the standout piece.

Layering is also very important for bringing the look into winter, not only for style but for warmth. With her romper, this Fashionista opts for black ribbed tights, over-the-knee black leather boots and a beige knit sweater. The boots are especially on-trend this season, and can be transitioned easily from day to night.

You can accessorize as much or as little as you want with this look depending on preference. I loved this Fashionista’s collection of earthy rings which reflect her self-described “bohemian style.” In terms of jewelry, she lets these gems take center stage and otherwise opts only for chunky tortoise sunglasses, which are both cute and necessary when dealing with the harsh winter glare off the snow.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I come from a beach town where dresses and rompers are essential. They do a terrible job at keeping you warm though, so I’ve been pairing them with tights or leggings and pulling sweaters over them. This way I feel snuggly and warm while still expressing myself.”
