Nothing gets me excited for fall fashion like the pre-fall collections. Usually not one to stray from leather and monochromatic moods, I was thoroughly impressed and surprised by Gucci’s pre-fall 2016 collection. A mix of muted and bright tones, furs and, of course, pleats, Alessandro Michele’s romantic yet whimsical vision for the brand came to life like an 18th century painting. Michele chose classic silhouettes and updated them with otherworldly embellishments such as patchworks, appliqués and embroideries, respectively. Out of every piece created for the collection, those featuring accordion pleats spoke to me the most. Gucci included pleated skirts with metallic accents, prints and even pleated, vintage-inspired gowns.
For my take on the trend, I chose to ditch the predictable pleated skirt and try accordion pleated pants. High-waisted and sheer, the pants were layered over silky black shorts, revealing a modest amount of skin when worn. I paired my trendy pants with a plain black T-shirt to keep the look more casual and comfy for day. Instead of sticking to all black, I chose to sport a pale pink, oversized coat to continue the feminine feel evoked through the pants. Continuing with the pink pop of color theme, I added a vintage, hot pink, velvet Chanel quilted bag to the ensemble. To finish off the look, I wore my silver Raf Simons Stan Smith adidas sneakers to keep things modern and to honor my style. This look can be dressed up with black or silver pumps or kept casual with basically any kind of trainers. Don’t be afraid of color when it comes to the pleated trend as well, and remember that metallics are more than welcome.
